Free solo: Oscar winner 2019
Free Solo is a 2018 American documentary film directed by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin. Get to know how is the performance of the movie in Free Solo Movie Review.
Free solo means you climb a vertical cliff without ropes or without any harness or support of any kind.
This non-fiction film captures the rock climber Alex Honnold’s death-defying quest to perform a free solo (no harness or safety ropes) climb up El Capitan in Yosemite National Park.
The climbing cinematography by Chin and his team creates a vertigo effect for the viewer and is breathtakingly beautiful, and you gasp for air, as Alex begins the last part of his vertical climb. Your heart goes to your mouth every time he trusts his life to a single toenail or a thumb grip with the space of a small pencil.
While you must plan to watch this feature, I am sharing below an 11 minute Ted Talk by Alex Honnold on this historic climb and what it meant in preparatory efforts.
Not to be missed. Please do watch the full feature at the first opportunity, as it is just unbelievable.
But meantime, watch the below Ted Talk which is also so inspiring. Let us know your thoughts about the Free Solo Movie Review in the comments section below.
