Nude (Marathi Movie):
Nude is a 2018 Indian Marathi Movie directed by Ravi Jadhav and produced by Ravi Jadhav and Zee Studio.
It stars Chhaya Kadam, Madan Deodhar, Kalyanee Mulay, Naseeruddin Shah, Kishor Kadam.
The film tells the story of a model who poses nude to earn for her son’s education.
The movie was released on 27 April 2018.
First things first – The movie hall was jam-packed with a sensible audience which is always the case in Citi Pride Kothrud – Pune, and it immensely helps in getting your own space/comfort zone, in watching such movies, which otherwise could be a fiasco with wrong guys in the auditorium.
So that’s the first point, I wish to make, that goes in favor of assimilating & appreciating, what happens in front of you, on the screen.
Without such an environment or atmosphere, one should not watch this movie.
The plot is rather simplistic – An economically impoverished woman poses Nude in school of Art as a routine job and earns her bread to make a living and hides this fact from her near & dear ones, and moves on from initially tormenting her from the thought of having to pose nude, to appreciating the fact that, it is helping someone get educated about human anatomy & enabling them to express this human body & its beauty artistically. Her journey as a nude model from self-denial or self-pity to self-affirmation about she doing the right thing to absolute rejection by her own son is what you get to see in NUDE.
I have shared the plot with its ending, first time in my reviews, as even after knowing this fully, you would in all probability like this movie.
The subject is tricky and rather risky and although it is graphic & bold in some areas, it never becomes titillating or voyeuristic or obscene or something that is repulsive or just unacceptable, which is a big plus point of this movie.
So kudos to Ravi Jadhav, who pulls this off, with great ease and finesse. The movie is like watching someone painting picture in front of you of a live model and hence your focus is on the artist’s ability and the flair to capture that in his /her own way and present it in a metaphorical manner that is universally appealing.
A brilliant portrayal by Chaya Kadam and Kalyani Mulay of the Nude Models takes this movie to a level that is only so far seen, in European movies.
While it could have been slightly shortened in its length especially in the second half, it is forgivable in view of its overall impact.
The most importantly, it is good that under BJP rule, this movie has been allowed to be released, without any cuts as there are NO CUTS required, and it would score a point in favor of the BJP and it would have been really stupid to ban this movie.
If you are a patient viewer and are okay with plots of movies which capture the pathos of a given situation, it is recommended to go and watch this movie.
