    Section 375 Movie Review

Section 375 is also known as Section 375: Marzi Ya Zabardasti. It is a 2019 Bollywood movie produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak, Abhishek Pathak and directed by Ajay Bahl and written by Manish Gupta.

Section 375 story is based on Section 375 IPC of (Indian Penal Code) laws, in India. The Section 375 cast consists of Akshaye Khanna, Richa Chadha in lead roles and Rahul Bhat, Meera Chopra, Kruttika Desai in supporting roles. The film Section 375 release date is on 13 September 2019, in India.

Firstly, I must say that it is an audacious effort without any dilution or diversions, from the main theme or the subject, the director has chosen.

The story is of a Film director who is accused by his female costume assistant of rape and upon lodging the complaint in the police station by this victim, the director gets arrested, and in a speedy trial, he is sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by the session court.

What transpired while she was at the director’s home & while the Sessions Court sentences him to jail, the case is reopened in the High Court, and in the face of media and public scrutiny, two determined lawyers battle it out, is the main plot of the movie.

The two lawyers played by Akshay Khanna (defending the accused) and Richa Chadda (the prosecution) set high standards in their characterization and as expected Akshay is intense and riveting and Richa Chadda catches up with Akshay on all counts.

‘Section 375’ presents versions of the same story from two different perspectives and in the process, takes the viewers through routine procedures of investigation in a disturbing way, and also shows corruption in the system, and investigation lapses with a gritty, realistic feel.

As the courtroom drama proceeds, conjectures come to the fore, keeping the audience hooked, guessing and joining the dots right till the end.

While we fear that actual crime may get shown with an element of a slur, it does not happen that way and the director shows immense restraint and control but the element of boldness, graphic nature of the language and the tonality of the film keeps you on the edge.

Those who are okay with the subject and want to sit through a court trial drama, which is edgy and entertaining, can watch this movie. Let us know your valuable views on Section 375 Movie Review in the comments section below.
